
About the Role
A high profile client of ours is seeking 10 discreet and analytical Mystery Shoppers to carry out covert assessments across their customers' Nigerian operations. The role will evaluate organizational culture, fraud and operational risks, compliance behaviour, and quality of customer/employee interactions across physical locations, agent networks, partners, retail stores, field teams, and digital touchpoints.
As a Mystery Shopper you will execute structured scenarios designed to reveal real‑world behaviours and provide actionable insights that strengthen compliance, customer experience, and risk mitigation.
This will cover Culture, Fraud Risk & Ways of Working.
Confidentiality: Mandatory NDA; strict anonymity protocols will be required.
The Details
Compensation: ₦2,500 - ₦5,500/work delivery
What will you be doing
1) Scenario Execution Across The State
Conduct covert visits to stores, service centres, distributors, agents, transport hubs, informal markets, and partner sites.
Execute specific assigned test scripts, covering:
Cultural behaviour: respect, inclusiveness, escalation awareness, tone from staff.
Fraud vulnerabilities: POS manipulation, airtime swaps, receipt suppression, mobile money fraud, identity fraud, collusion, bribery/facilitation payments, stock diversion.
Regulatory compliance:
NDPR (Nigeria Data Protection Regulation) — handling PII.
Anti‑Corruption laws & EFCC guidelines.
Consumer Protection Council (FCCPC) expectations.
Test scenarios involving:
Requests for “special favour” or “help me run it fast.”
Checks on proper KYC for high‑risk transactions.
Cash handling and reconciliation.
Handling of complaints and escalation pathways.
2) Evidence Collection
Document findings using secure tools: timestamped notes, publicly visible photos, redacted receipts, and behavioural observations.
Avoid capturing unnecessary PII and comply with NDPR requirements.
Maintain accurate, structured visit logs.
3) Culture, Fraud, and Operations Assessment
Identify behaviours that reflect or contradict company values.
Spot fraud red flags common in the Nigerian environment (e.g., “no receipt discount,” agent fee inflation, SIM swap fraud risks, preferential treatment, price manipulation).
Assess SOP adherence, queue management, safety, and customer handling.
4) Reporting
Submit concise post‑visit reports with:
Severity-ranked findings
Root causes
Nigerian regulatory implications
Practical recommendations
Present insights to Compliance/Risk stakeholders—identity remains confidential.
5) Collaboration & Confidentiality
Work with Compliance/Audit on scenario design and coverage mapping.
Preserve secrecy and avoid influencing staff behaviours.
Escalate severe cases immediately (e.g., bribery solicitation, harassment, safety incidents).
Who they are looking for (REQUIRED)
High integrity, confidentiality, and ethical judgment.
Keen observational skill and ability to notice subtle behavioural cues.
Cultural intelligence across the region.
Objective, neutral reporting style.
Resilience and safety awareness.
Strong report writing skills and command of English.
Ability to travel widely, including urban and rural areas in the capital.
Must pass background screening and sign an NDA.
Preferred
Understanding of retail, telecoms, FMCG, banking/fintech, agent networks, or service industries.
Familiarity with Nigerian business norms across multiple regions.
Fluency in at least one Nigerian language: Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Pidgin, or others.
Key Performance Indicator (KPI)
Coverage of assigned locations and scenarios.
Accuracy and objectivity of findings.
Quality of insights and recommendations.
Identification of meaningful risks (fraud, culture, operational).
Zero safety or confidentiality breaches.
